(New London) Guitar legends Dave Mason, a founder of the legendary English rock band Traffic, and Kal David will perform at the Garde Arts Center, 325 State Street in New London, CT for an unforgettable evening of classic rock & blues on Friday, June 4, 2010 at 7:30 pm to benefit Work Vessels for Veterans (WVFV), a Noank-based national charitable organization providing equipment and support for military veterans returning to civilian careers. Dave Mason has become a national advocate for WVFV and sits on its Board of Trustees.
Mason's career spans over 37 years and has encompassed producing, performing and song writing. At age 18, the Worcester England native teamed up with Steve Winwood, Jim Capaldi and Chris Wood to form the legendary band Traffic. At 19, Mason penned the song "Feelin' Alright", a rock and roll anthem that has been recorded by well over 48 artists, the best known version being by Joe Cocker.
Mason departed from the group after their second album. In 1969 Dave headed for the USA to pursue a solo career. He struck gold with the album "Alone Together", which is considered a rock classic. This was followed by five albums for CBS/Sony, four of which received gold albums, and his classic "We Just Disagree", becoming a top-ten single.
In addition to performing to sold-out audiences, Mason performed on a number of albums such as The Rolling Stones' "Beggars' Banquet", George Harrison's "All Things Must Pass", Paul McCartney's "Listen To What The Man Said" and Jimi Hendrix's "Electric Ladyland".
In October of 1993, Dave Mason formally joined the legendary group Fleetwood Mac and spent two years touring with them around the world. Mason and his band currently play over 200 concerts a year throughout the nation.
The benefit concert will open with young New York singer/songwriter Natalie Gelman and Kal David and the Real Deal. Blues/jazz guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter Kal David, a Chicago native, founded The Fabulous Rhinestones and has been a featured guitarist for Etta James, Johnny Rivers and with John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers.
Tickets for Dave Mason on Friday, June 4 at 7:30 pm at the historic Garde Arts Center are available at the Garde Box Office at 325 State Street in New London, by phone at (860) 444-7373 ext.1 or online at www.gardearts.org. Tickets are $45 for Orchestra and Loge, $38 for Front Balcony, $34 for Rear Balcony, and $60 for Garde Circle seating. All net proceeds from the concert will be donated to Work Vessels for Veterans.
